basement type venue in munich, opening today was miracle fortress, like mister watson from montreal ... first a solo-thing by the guitar player, looping guitar lines, which made me think of kaki king, who did this better ... after that 3 more on stage, and from then on they sounded fresh and entertaining, poppy songs with some hooks, with a inventive drummer ... too bad they didn't play their daft punk cover ... then partick watson, who at first seemed nervous or drunk, or both ... playing at the piano, with a seated guitar player, so first more playing music then performing (which i'd describe as getting something across the audience) ... for a moment i considered the opening band the better part of the evening, but then came midnight express, his xylophone song, and the jigsaw fell into place ... i guess they had to warm up ... from then on a good and long gig, including a change of setting to the top of the bar, an acoustic man under the sea with the drummer even hitting rows of glasses ... one remark, the feedback pedal on his microphone adds something, but not when using it almost all the time ... these montreal people make nice music (see also old and great cohen), i should go there one day ...

die neunte, a symphony on my wish-list since i first listened to it (as kid at home :), and indeed impressive ... and here played by the münchner symphoniker, counting 50 musicians and a choir of 100 people, sitting on stage the whole time while they only sing in the final ... and what a final ... joined by 4 soloists, of which especially the soprano was stunning, towering above all the others ... favorite moment is early in the final part, when the freude-theme is played only by the violins ... like silence introducing a welcome summer storm ...
