magic .. saturday evening in the marquee, something moved .. everyone there felt it ..
listen yourself, watch the animation at the background and be amazed
.. i already have one today-music hero (alec turner of the monkeys & shadow puppets),
now jonsi is there as well .. what a music he creates (here and with sigur ros) ..
i wonder what would happen if those two team up ..
another great voice earlier on thursday in the same marquee, mark lanegan, doing the
same, only accompanied by one (great) guitarist .. playing an old song which i didn't
know yet, hooray ..
just in time to claim the last piece of ground on the main-camping, at the cost of a bottle of leffe, all this just before 12 o'clock, so indeed lots of people .. because of that no frightened rabbits, first gig was tame impala in the club, and already sounding nice .. next megafaun, not megafun but good music nevertheless, then off to the marquee for black rebel motorcycle club, sounding indeed black and a bit monotone, leaving us with spread your love like a fever, and after pp, we indeed were all a bit sick .. then a first highlight, band of horses, good memories on their botanique gig (and afterwards ;), now again a really good set and nice visuals on top, views of the wild west going well with their music, so there, the world was such a wonderful place .. after a bit of girls (relaxing in the chateau, with the seats removed this year, so sitting on the ground) a big guy in the marquee, mark lanegan, only accompanied with a great guitarist, first time i saw him solo, and again he did a great job .. then there was already fear of the dark (nice intro and shouting along), and apparently they (iron maiden) did not play run to the hills (my favorite), so i sang it myself .. then goldfrapp, eighties keyboard music in 2010, a bit strange .. at the end of the day these new puritans, chains hanging on stage, again strange, but now sounding interesting and promising .. missed the flaming lips, again a good show i heard from a good source, although she had no confetti in her hair or clothes ..
day two, after an amazingly cold, cold night started with kate nash singing out of tune, so quickly leaving that for the last song of harlem (although the schedule gave them ten more minutes) .. then fanfarlo in the now boiling chateau, great music, unknown except their i'm a pilot, which we didn't hear .. then blood red shoes and white lies, now on big stages, quite different to the small club and chateau were i saw them before .. a bit of avi buffalo, but not that intrigued by them, and then eels on the main stage, with a great show, lots of hombre lobo songs, including the sad but nice that look you give .. then getting ready for mumford & sons, and an amazing atmosphere in the marquee, putting a constant smile on their faces .. they awakened our soul, and much more, another highlight .. then a bit of the tallest man on earth, one guy with a guitar, sounding nice .. after that the club was a beach house, not an astronaut's, and they didn't play that song either, but still a nice gig .. then i went to snow patrol instead of the xx, one great marquee moment was enough for me .. no snow on this hot day, but enough nice songs
last day, starting with a complete cooked meal and selah sue on the main stage, nice voice, but her songs are a bit of the same .. then broken glass heroes and gogol bordello from in between, with water flying everywere (indeed, hot again) .. then the low anthem in the marquee, really nice songs, and silent, with the boiler beats sometimes sounding louder .. then another highlight, this time on the main stage, we were good in front, and we did not mistaken them for strangers, although for some the first time live .. for me, another nice national gig, but now in really nice company .. then a bit of au revoir simone, three girls on keyboards, followed by lots of men on guitars, the queens of the stone age, an amazing gig, no time to rest, just enough to go with the flow .. after that maybe the best of the whole festival and a big change to the previous (which is one of the nice things of this festival, different styles, but all great music), jonsi in the marquee, playing the songs of his solo debut, slow shows mixed with more uptempo work, with incredible visuals in the background, strange clothing, and so moving music (see above), leaving us amazed with an amazing grow till tall .. then 2 many dj's, a good party to end these three days, followed by a happy birthday to pukkelpop and alarms (fireworks) and no suprises .. next year again ?
and (my own) difference between music on disc and on stage: music on disc passes on
(unless you use repeat), while a live song (or gig) you experience with your full attention ..
mark lanegan: when your number isn’t up / one way street / miracle / like little willie
john / don’t forget me / where the twain shall meet / one hundred days / hanging tree /
jesus’ program / halo of ashes / hit the city // i'll take care of you
